Topologie algébrique, chapter IV, § 6. Espaces classifiants
Let G be a topological group, let be a topological space, and let be a principal fibre space with group G and base . Suppose that the space is homotopic to a point.
Let B be a paracompact topological space.
a) Every principal fibre space with group G and base B is isomorphic to a principal fibre space of the form , where is a continuous mapping.
b) Let and be continuous mappings of B into . In order that and should be isomorphic principal fibre spaces with group G and base B, it is necessary and sufficient that the mappings and should be homotopic.
In other words, there exists a mapping of into P(B; G) which associates with the homotopy class of a continuous mapping of B into the isomorphism class of the principal fibre space . This mapping is bijective.
Let E be a principal fibre space with group G and base B. By Prop. 4, the sheaf on B of morphisms of principal fibre spaces of E into is soft. Hence is not empty, whence a).
Let and be continuous mappings of B into . If the mappings and are homotopic, the principal fibre spaces and are isomorphic (IV, p. 445, corollary 2). Let us prove the converse. For , let denote the principal fibre -space , the first projection and the second projection. Let be an isomorphism of principal fibre spaces. Let be the mapping Id.
Since the space is paracompact (TG, IX, p. 70, proposition 17), the sheaf on of morphisms of principal fibre spaces from into is soft (IV, p. 446, proposition 4). Put , , and define an element of by setting

Since the sheaf is soft, there exist an element and an open neighbourhood V of A in U such that ; such an element is a continuous mapping , compatible with the operations of G and such that , for every . There then exists a mapping such that for and ; this mapping is continuous, and it is a homotopy joining to .
Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
