Théories spectrales, chapter I, § 5. Algèbres de Banach commutatives régulières

Let A be a commutative regular Banach algebra, I an ideal of A and K a compact subset of X(A)\mathsf{X}(A) disjoint from V(I). There exists an element x∈Ix\in I such that G(x)=1\mathscr{G}(x) = 1 for every xx in K.

This is a special case of prop. 15 of I, p. 81 taking into account the fact that the Jacobson topology coincides with the weak topology on X(A)\mathsf{X}(A).

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
