Théories spectrales, chapter I, § 7. Spectre des endomorphismes des espaces de Banach

Let E be a complex Hilbert space and let uu be a normal endomorphism of E. Let (Ei)i∈I(E_i)_{i\in I} be a finite family of closed subspaces of E, stable under uu and pairwise orthogonal, such that E=⨁i∈IEiE =\bigoplus_{i\in I}E_i. For every i∈Ii\in I, let uiu_i denote the endomorphism of EiE_i induced by uu. One has Sp(uu) =⋃i∈I=\bigcup_{i\in I} Sp(uiu_i), and for every f∈Cf\in \mathscr{C}(Sp(uu)), the endomorphism f(u)f(u) stabilises the spaces EiE_i, and f(u)f(u) coincides with f(ui)f(u_i) on EiE_i.

The proof follows that of lemma 1 of I, p. 128, using the remark of 6 of I, p. 110 and prop. 8 of I, p. 112.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
