Théories spectrales, chapter I, § 7. Spectre des endomorphismes des espaces de Banach

Let E be a Hilbert space and let uu be a normal endomorphism of E. Let F be a closed subspace of E containing a total set of proper vectors of uu. Then F∘F^{\circ} is stable under uu and the endomorphism u~\widetilde{u} of F∘F^{\circ} deduced from uu is normal.

Since uu is normal, every proper vector of uu is also a proper vector of u∗u^* (EVT, V, p. 43, cor.). The assumption therefore implies that F is stable under uu and under u∗u^*. By EVT, V, p. 41, prop. 4 (ii), we therefore have u(F∘)⊂F∘u(F^{\circ})\subset F^{\circ} and u∗(F∘)⊂F∘u^*(F^{\circ})\subset F^{\circ}. It follows that the adjoint of u~\widetilde{u} is the endomorphism of F∘F^{\circ} deduced from u∗u^*. Since uu is normal, the endomorphism u~\widetilde{u} is normal.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
