Théories spectrales, chapter IV, § 1. Opérateurs compacts sur un espace hilbertien
Let be a family of complex numbers. For each , let be the cardinal of the set of such that . The family is summable if and only if is finite for each and the family is summable. In this case, the sums of these two families are equal.
Suppose that the family is summable. For each , let be the set of such that . By TG, III, p. 39, Theorem 2, applied to the partition of I by the sets , the set is finite for each , and moreover the family is summable, with sum equal to that of the family .
Conversely, suppose that is finite for each and that the family is summable. Let J be a finite subset of I and Λ the set of the for . We have
hence the family is summable (TG, VII, p. 17, corollary).
Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
