Let A be an involutive Banach algebra and let λ be a continuous positive linear form on A. Let (E1,x1,φ1) and (E2,x2,φ2) be Hilbertian realizations of λ. Suppose that (E1,x1,φ1) is a cyclic Hilbertian realization.
a) There exists a unique continuous linear mapping u from E1 into E2 which is a morphism of representations of φ1 into φ2(I, p. 11) and which satisfies u(φ1(a)x1)=φ2(a)x2 for every a∈A;
b) The linear mapping u is isometric;
c) If (E2,x2,φ2) is cyclic, then u is an isomorphism;
d) If (E2,x2,φ2) is cyclic and if A is unital, then u(x1)=x2.
For j∈{1,2}, define γj:A→Ej by γj(a)=φj(a)xj for every a∈A. By definition, the pairs (Ej,γj) are Hilbertian realizations of the universally positive kernel f on A defined by (a,b)↦λ(a∗b). The Hilbertian realization (E1,γ1) is cyclic; by prop. 1 of V, p. 434, there exists therefore a unique continuous linear mapping u:E1→E2 such that γ2=u∘γ1, and this mapping is isometric. Moreover, if (E2,x2,φ2) is also cyclic, then u is an isomorphism. To prove a), b) and c), it is enough to prove that u is a morphism of representations of φ1 into φ2.
Let a∈A. For every b∈A, we have
(u∘φ1(a))(γ1(b))=(u∘φ1(ab))x1=(u∘γ1)(ab)
=γ2(ab)=φ2(a)(γ2(b))=φ2(a)(u(γ1(b)))
therefore the continuous linear mappings u∘φ1(a) and φ2(a)∘u coincide on the subspace of E1 generated by the image of γ1; this subspace is dense in E1 by hypothesis, whence u∘φ1(a)=φ2(a)∘u.
Finally, let us prove d). Suppose therefore that A is unital and that (E2,x2,φ2) is cyclic. There exists a cyclic Hilbertian realization (E3,x3,φ3) of λ such that φ3 is a unital morphism (prop. 5). Let j∈{1,2}. Applying the foregoing to (Ej,xj,φj) and (E3,x3,φ3), we see that there exists an isometric isomorphism uj of Ej into E3 such that uj∘φj(a)=φ3(a)∘uj for every a∈A. Taking a=1A, we see that φj is unital. We then have x2=φ2(1A)x2=u(φ1(1A)x1)=u(x1).
Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
