Let A and B be star algebras. A linear mapping of A into B is said to be positive if , and totally positive if, for every integer , the mapping is positive.
a) Let A be a unital star algebra, E and F complex Hilbert spaces, a linear mapping of E into F and a unital morphism of involutive algebras of A into such that . The mapping defined by is totally positive.
The aim of the exercise is to prove the converse of this assertion («Stinespring theorem»). Let A be a unital star algebra, E a complex Hilbert space, and a totally positive linear mapping.
b) Let . There exists a positive sesquilinear form on F such that
for all and .
Let be the separated-completed Hilbert space of F for the sesquilinear form .
c) Let . The endomorphism of F such that for all and induces by passing to the quotients an endomorphism of such that ; the mapping is a unital morphism of involutive algebras.
d) Let be the linear mapping of E into such that is the class of for all . We have , and for all .
