Theory of Sets, chapter II, § 6. Equivalence relations

Let P{x,x′}P\{x, x'\} be a relation in which the letters yy, y′y' do not occur. P is said to be compatible with the equivalence relations R{x,y}R\{x, y\} and R′{x′,y′}R'\{x', y'\} (with respect to xx and x′x') if the relation (P{x,x′}(P\{x, x'\} and R{x,y}R\{x, y\} and R′{x′,y′})R'\{x', y'\}) implies P{y,y′}P\{y, y'\}. Let Q{u}Q\{u\} be the relation (∃x)(∃x′)(u=(x,x′)(\exists x)(\exists x')(u = (x, x') and P{x,x′})P\{x, x'\}); then it comes to the same thing to say that Q{u}Q\{u\} is compatible (with respect to uu) with the equivalence relation S{u,v}S\{u, v\}, the product of RR and R′R'.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
