Theory of Sets, chapter III, § 2. Well-ordered sets

Every subset A of a well-ordered set E is isomorphic to a segment of E.

By virtue of Theorem 3 it is enough to prove that there exists no isomorphism gg of E onto a segment of A of the form SaS_a. If there were, gg would then be a strictly increasing mapping of E into E such that g(a)∈Sag(a)\in S_a, in other words such that g(a)<ag(a)<a; but this inequality contradicts Lemma 4 (with ff as the identity mapping).

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
