Theory of Sets, chapter II, § 5. Product of a family of sets

(1) If uu is a surjection of E′E' onto EE and vv an injection of FF into F′F', then the mapping f↦v∘f∘uf \mapsto v \circ f \circ u is injective.

(2) If uu is an injection of E′E' into EE and vv a surjection of FF onto F′F', then the mapping f↦v∘f∘uf \mapsto v \circ f \circ u is surjective.

We shall assume that the sets EE, E′E', FF, F′F' are all non-empty, since otherwise the proposition is trivially verified.

(1) Let ss be a section of uu and let rr be a retraction of vv (§3, Definition 11). Then r∘(v∘f∘u)∘s=IF∘f∘IE=fr \circ (v \circ f \circ u) \circ s = I_F \circ f \circ I_E = f, so that

f↦v∘f∘u f \mapsto v \circ f \circ u

is injective.

(2) Let r′r' be a retraction of uu and let s′s' be a section of vv. For every mapping f′:E′→F′f' : E' \to F' we have v∘(s′∘f′∘r′)∘u=f′v \circ (s' \circ f' \circ r') \circ u = f', which shows that the mapping f↦v∘f∘uf \mapsto v \circ f \circ u is surjective.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
