Theory of Sets, chapter IV, § 2. Morphisms and derived structures

Let (Sλ)λ∈L(\mathscr{S}_\lambda)_{\lambda \in \mathrm{L}} be a family of structures of species Σ\Sigma on the same set A; let Aλ\mathrm{A}_\lambda denote the set A endowed with the structure Sλ\mathscr{S}_\lambda, and let Iλ\mathrm{I}_\lambda denote the identity mapping of A into Aλ\mathrm{A}_\lambda. Let B be the product set AL=∏λ∈LAλ\mathrm{A}^{\mathrm{L}} = \prod_{\lambda \in \mathrm{L}} \mathrm{A}_\lambda, and let Δ\Delta be the diagonal of this product (Chapter II, § 5, no. 3). Let hh be the diagonal mapping of A onto Δ\Delta, so that h(x)h(x) is the element (xλ)λ∈L(x_\lambda)_{\lambda \in \mathrm{L}} such that xλ=xx_\lambda = x for all λ∈L\lambda \in \mathrm{L}. Suppose that there exists on B a product structure S′\mathscr{S}' of the family (Sλ)(\mathscr{S}_\lambda). Since hh is injective, criterion CST 15 shows that there exists an initial structure S\mathscr{S} with respect to the family (Aλ,Sλ,Iλ)λ∈L(\mathrm{A}_\lambda, \mathscr{S}_\lambda, \mathrm{I}_\lambda)_{\lambda \in \mathrm{L}} if and only if there exists a structure S′′\mathscr{S}'' on Δ\Delta induced by S′\mathscr{S}'; S′′\mathscr{S}'' is then identical with the structure obtained by transporting S\mathscr{S} to Δ\Delta by means of hh. In particular, when all the structures Sλ\mathscr{S}_\lambda are identical, hh is an isomorphism of A (endowed with this structure) onto Δ\Delta.

We have also the following criterion :

CST16. Let (Aι)ι∈I(\mathrm{A}_\iota)_{\iota \in \mathrm{I}}, (Bι)ι∈I(\mathrm{B}_\iota)_{\iota \in \mathrm{I}} be two families of sets indexed by the same set. For each ι∈I\iota \in \mathrm{I}, let Sι\mathscr{S}_\iota be a structure of species Σ\Sigma on Aι\mathrm{A}_\iota and let Sι′\mathscr{S}'_\iota be a structure of species Σ\Sigma on Bι\mathrm{B}_\iota. Suppose that there exists on A=∏ι∈IAι(resp. on B=∏ι∈IBι)\mathrm{A} = \prod_{\iota \in \mathrm{I}} \mathrm{A}_\iota \left( \text{resp. on } \mathrm{B} = \prod_{\iota \in \mathrm{I}} \mathrm{B}_\iota \right) a product structure S\mathscr{S} (resp. S′\mathscr{S}') of the family (Sι)(\mathscr{S}_\iota) (resp. (Sι′)(\mathscr{S}'_\iota)). For each ι∈I\iota \in \mathrm{I}, let fιf_\iota be a morphism of Aι\mathrm{A}_\iota into Bι\mathrm{B}_\iota. Then the mapping f=(fι)ι∈If = (f_\iota)_{\iota \in \mathrm{I}} is a morphism of A into B.

Let pιp_\iota (resp. qιq_\iota) be the projection of A onto Aι\mathrm{A}_\iota (resp. of B onto Bι\mathrm{B}_\iota). Then we have qι∘f=fι∘pιq_\iota \circ f = f_\iota \circ p_\iota. Since fιf_\iota and pιp_\iota are morphisms (criterion

CST9), fi∘pif_i \circ p_i is a morphism by (MOΠ_\Pi); hence ff is a morphism by (IN).

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
