Commutative Algebra, chapter I, § 3. Faithfully flat modules

Let R,SR, S be two rings, EE a right RR-module and FF an (R,S)(R, S)-bimodule. Suppose that EE is faithfully flat. Then, for FF to be a flat (resp. faithfully flat) SS-module, it is necessary and sufficient that E⊗RFE \otimes_R F be so.

(1) If FF is flat, E⊗RFE \otimes_R F is flat (§2§ 2, no. 7, Proposition 8).

(2) Suppose that E⊗RFE \otimes_R F is flat and let ν:N′→N\nu : N' \to N be an injective left SS-module homomorphism. The homomorphism

lE⊗lF⊗ν:E⊗RF⊗SN′→E⊗RF⊗SN l_E \otimes l_F \otimes \nu : E \otimes_R F \otimes_S N' \to E \otimes_R F \otimes_S N

is then injective (§2§ 2, no. 3, Proposition 1). It follows from Proposition 2 of no. 1 that lF⊗ν:F⊗SN′→F⊗SNl_F \otimes \nu : F \otimes_S N' \to F \otimes_S N is injective; then FF is a flat SS-module (§2§ 2, no. 3, Proposition 1).

(3) Suppose that FF is faithfully flat and let NN be a left SS-module such that E⊗RF⊗SN=0E \otimes_R F \otimes_S N = 0. Since EE is faithfully flat, this implies that F⊗SN=0F \otimes_S N = 0, whence N=0N = 0 since FF is faithfully flat; this proves that E⊗RFE \otimes_R F is faithfully flat.

(4) Suppose that E⊗RFE \otimes_R F is faithfully flat and let NN be a left SS-module such that F⊗SN=0F \otimes_S N = 0. Then E⊗RF⊗SN=0E \otimes_R F \otimes_S N = 0, whence N=0N = 0, which shows that FF is faithfully flat.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
