Commutative Algebra, chapter III, § 1. Finitely generated graded algebras
Let be a graded commutative ring with positive degrees, m the graded ideal and a family of homogeneous elements of of degrees . The following conditions are equivalent:
(a) The ideal of generated by the family is equal to .
(b) The family is a system of generators of the *-algebra* .
(c) For all , the *-module* is generated by the elements of the form which are of degree in .
Clearly conditions (b) and (c) are equivalent. If they hold, every element of m is of the form where is a polynomial of with no constant term; then , which proves that (c) implies (a). Conversely, suppose that condition (a) holds. Let be the sub-A,-algebra of A generated by the family and let us show that . For this, it is sufficient to show that for all . We proceed by induction on , the property being obvious for . Then let , with . Since , there exists a family of elements of A of finite support such that and we may assume that each of the is homogeneous of degree (by replacing it if need be by its homogeneous component of that degree); as , the induction hypothesis shows that for all , whence and , which proves that (a) implies (b).
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
