Commutative Algebra, chapter VII, § 1. Krull domains

The valuations vfv_f and wˉ\bar{w} introduced in the proof of Proposition 13 are the essential valuations of A[X]A[X]. It will be sufficient for us to show that, if VV is the set of valuations vfv_f (ff irreducible) and wˉ\bar{w} (w essential), then, for all v′∈Vv' \in V, there exists an element g∈K(X)g \in K(X) which is not in A[X]A[X] and such that v′′(g)≥0v''(g) \geq 0 for all the valuations v′′∈Vv'' \in V distinct from v′v'; this will prove that V−{v′}V - \{v'\} does not satisfy (AKII_{II}) and the conclusion will follow therefore from no. 4, Corollary 2 to Proposition 6. Suppose first that v′v' is of the form wˉ\bar{w}: then we may take gg to be an element b∈Kb \in K such that w(b)<0,w′(b)≥0w(b) < 0, w'(b) \geq 0 for the essential valuations w′w' of AA distinct from ww, for then vf(b)=0v_f(b) = 0 for every irreducible monic polynomial ff in K[X]K[X]; the existence of an element bb satisfying the above conditions follows from no. 5, Proposition 9. Suppose secondly that v′v' is of the form vfv_f for an irreducible monic polynomial f∈K[X]f \in K[X] of degree mm; then we may take g=a/fg = a/f where a∈Aa \in A. For vh(g)≥0v_h(g) \geq 0 for every irreducible monic polynomial h≠fh \neq f in K[X]K[X]; it remains to choose a∈Aa \in A such that, for every essential valuation ww of AA, w(a)w(a) is at least equal to the greatest lower bound of the elements w(ci)w(c_i), where the cic_i are the coefficients of ff (1≤i≤m1 \leq i \leq m); now the existence of such an a∈Aa \in A follows from (AKIII_{III}) and no. 5, Proposition 9.

We may also say (no. 6, Theorem 4) that the prime ideals of A[X]A[X] of height 1 are: (1) the prime ideals of the form pA[X]pA[X], where pp is a prime ideal of AA of height 1; (2) the prime ideals of the form m∩A[X]m \cap A[X], where mm is a (necessarily principal) prime ideal of K[X]K[X].

The latter are characterized by the fact that their intersection with AA is reduced to 0.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
