Commutative Algebra, chapter VII, § 1. Krull domains
Let be a Krull domain and indeterminates. The ring is a Krull domain.
Arguing by induction on , it is sufficient to show that, if is an indeterminate, is a Krull domain. Let be the field of fractions of . The field of fractions of is . Let be the set of monic polynomials in which are irreducible over ; for all , let be the valuation on defined by (Chapter VI, §3, no. 3, Example 4). On the other hand, for every essential valuation of , let be the extension of to defined by
for (Chapter VI, §10, no. 1, Lemma 1). Clearly the , and the are discrete and normed and, for all , (resp. ) except for a finite number of valuations (resp. ).
To show the proposition, it therefore suffices to show that is the intersection of the rings of the valuations and . Now the intersection of the rings of the valuations is . On the other hand, for , the relation is equivalent to " for all "; hence the relation " for every valuation " is equivalent to " for all and every essential valuation of ." This proves our assertion.
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
