Algebra, chapter I, § 1. Laws of composition; associativity; commutativity

Let EE be a magma and XX a subset of EE. The set of elements of EE which commute with each of the elements of XX is called the centralizer of XX.

Let XX and YY be two subsets of EE and X′X' and Y′Y' their respective centralizers. If X⊂YX \subset Y, then Y′⊂X′Y' \subset X'.

Let (Xi)i∈I(X_i)_{i \in I} be a family of subsets of EE and for all i∈Ii \in I let Xi′X'_i be the centralizer of XiX_i. The centralizer of ⋃i∈IXi\bigcup_{i \in I} X_i is ⋂i∈IXi′\bigcap_{i \in I} X'_i.

Let XX be a subset of EE and X′X' the centralizer of XX. The centralizer X′′X'' of X′X' is called the bicentralizer of XX. Then X⊂X′′X \subset X''. The centralizer X′′′X''' of X′′X'' is equal to X′X'. For X′X' is contained in its bicentralizer X′′′X''' and the relation X⊂X′′X \subset X'' implies X′′′′⊂X′X'''' \subset X'.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
