Algebra, chapter I, § 2. Identity element; cancellable elements; invertible elements

An element aa of a magma EE is called left (resp. right) cancellable (or regular) if left (resp. right) translation by aa is injective. A left and right cancellable element is called a cancellable (or regular) element.

In other words, for aa to be cancellable under the law T\mathsf{T}, it is necessary and sufficient that each of the relations aTx=aTy,xTa=yTaa \mathsf{T} x = a \mathsf{T} y, x \mathsf{T} a = y \mathsf{T} a imply x=yx = y (it is said that "a can be cancelled" from each of these equalities). If there exists an identity element ee under the law T\mathsf{T}, it is cancellable under this law: the translations γe\gamma_e and δe\delta_e are then the identity mapping of EE onto itself.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
