Algebra, chapter I, § 2. Identity element; cancellable elements; invertible elements

Let E be a monoid; if each of the elements xαx_\alpha of an ordered sequence (xα)α∈A(x_\alpha)_{\alpha \in A} of elements of E has an inverse xα′x'_\alpha, the composition ∏α∈Axα\prod_{\alpha \in A} x_\alpha has inverse ∏α∈A′xα′\prod_{\alpha \in A'} x'_\alpha, where A' is the totally ordered set derived from A by replacing the order on A by the opposite order.

This corollary follows from Proposition 4 by induction on the number of elements in A.

In particular, if x and x' are inverses, ∏nx\prod^n x and ∏nx′\prod^n x' are inverses for every integer n≥0n \geq 0.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
