Algebra, chapter I, § 8. Rings

Let A be a ring. Let (ai)i∈I(a_i)_{i \in I} be a finite family of subgroups of the additive group A+A^+ of A such that A+A^+ is the direct sum of the aia_i. Suppose aiai⊂aia_i a_i \subset ai for i∈Ii \in I and aiaj={0}a_i a_j = \{0\} for i≠ji \neq j. Then aia_i is for all i∈Ii \in I a two-sided ideal of A. With addition and multiplication induced by those on A, aia_i is a ring with unit element the component of 1∈A1 \in A in aia_i. If bi=∑j≠iajb_i = \sum_{j \neq i} a_j, clearly the bib_i satisfy condition (c) of Proposition 10 and hence (bi)i∈I(b_i)_{i \in I} is a direct decomposition of A, which is said to be defined by (ai)i∈I(a_i)_{i \in I}.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
