Algebra, chapter I, § 9. Fields

Let KK be a field. For every subset XX of KK, the centralizer (§ 8, no. 5, Example 3) X′X' of XX is a subfield of KK.

We know (loc. cit.) that X′X' is a subring of KK. On the other hand, if x≠0x \neq 0 is permutable with z∈Xz \in X, so is x−1x^{-1} (I, § 2, no. 3, Proposition 5) and hence X′X' contains the inverse of every non-zero element of X′X'.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
