Algebra, chapter II, § 7. Vector spaces

Let EE be a vector space of finite dimension nn and uu an endomorphism of EE. The following properties are equivalent: (a) uu is bijective; (b) uu is injective; (c) uu is surjective; (d) uu is right invertible; (e) uu is left invertible; (f) uu is of rank nn.

If E is an infinite-dimensional vector space, there are injective (resp. surjective) endomorphisms of E which are not bijective (Exercise 9).

Let K, K' be two fields, σ:K→K′\sigma : K \to K' an isomorphism of K onto K', E a vector K-space, E' a vector K'-space and u:K→K′u : K \to K' a semi-linear mapping relative to σ\sigma (§ 1, no. 13); the dimension of the subspace u(E)u(E) of E' is also called the rank of uu. It is also the rank of uu considered as a linear mapping of E into σ∗(E′)\sigma_*(E'), for every basis of u(E)u(E) is also a basis of σ∗(u(E))\sigma_*(u(E)).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
