Algebra, chapter II, § 7. Vector spaces

Let EE be an AA-module and (xλ)λ∈L(x_\lambda)_{\lambda \in L} a family of elements of EE. For (xλ)(x_\lambda) to be a free family, it is necessary and sufficient that in the vector KK-space E(K)E_{(K)} the family (1⊗xλ)(1 \otimes x_\lambda) be free.

The family (xλ)(x_\lambda) defines an AA-linear mapping f:A(L)→Ef : A^{(L)} \to E such that f(eλ)=xλf(e_\lambda) = x_\lambda for all λ∈L\lambda \in L ((eλ)(e_\lambda) being the canonical basis of A(L)A^{(L)}) and to say that (xλ)(x_\lambda) is free means that ff is injective. It suffices to apply Corollary 2 to ff, observing that A(L)A^{(L)} is torsion-free (Proposition 25).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
