Algebra, chapter III, § 5. Tensor algebra. Tensors

Let Δ\Delta be a commutative monoid, MM a graded AA-module of type Δ\Delta and (Mα)α∈Δ(M_\alpha)_{\alpha \in \Delta} its graduation. For every ordered pair (α,n)∈Δ×N(\alpha, n) \in \Delta \times \mathbf{N}, let Tα,n(M)T^{\alpha, n}(M) be the (direct) sum of the submodules Mα1⊗Mα2⊗⋯⊗MαnM_{\alpha_1} \otimes M_{\alpha_2} \otimes \cdots \otimes M_{\alpha_n} of Tn(M)T^n(M) such that ∑i=1nαi=α\sum_{i=1}^n \alpha_i = \alpha; then (Tα,n(M))(α,n)∈Δ×N(T^{\alpha, n}(M))_{(\alpha, n) \in \Delta \times \mathbf{N}} is the only graduation of type Δ×N\Delta \times \mathbf{N} compatible with the algebra structure on T(M)T(M) and inducing on M=T1(M)M = T^1(M) the given gradation.

It has been seen at the beginning of this no. that T(M)T(M) is the direct sum of the Tα,n(M)T^{\alpha, n}(M) and the fact that this is a graduation compatible with the algebra structure follows immediately from the definitions. If (T′α,n)({T'}^{\alpha, n}) is another graduation of type Δ×N\Delta \times \mathbf{N} on T(M)T(M) compatible with the algebra structure and such that T′α,1(M)=T′α,1{T'}^{\alpha, 1}(M) = {T'}^{\alpha, 1} for α∈Δ\alpha \in \Delta, it follows immediately from the definitions that, for all n≥1n \geq 1 and all α∈Δ\alpha \in \Delta, Tα,n(M)⊂T′α,nT^{\alpha, n}(M) \subset {T'}^{\alpha, n}; but since T(M)T(M) is also the direct sum of the Tα,n(M)T^{\alpha, n}(M), this implies that T′α,n=Tα,n(M){T'}^{\alpha, n} = T^{\alpha, n}(M) (II, § 1, no. 8, Remark).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
