Algebra, chapter III, § 6. Symmetric algebras

Let NN and PP be two submodules of an AA-module MM such that their sum N+PN + P is a direct factor in MM and their intersection N∩PN \cap P is a direct factor in NN and in PP. Then the homomorphisms S(N)→S(M)S(N) \to S(M), S(P)→S(M)S(P) \to S(M) and

S(N∩P)→S(M), S(N \cap P) \to S(M),
canonical extensions of the canonical injections, are injective; if S(N)S(N), S(P)S(P) and S(N∩P)S(N \cap P) are identified with subalgebras of S(M)S(M) by means of these homomorphisms, then
S(N∩P)=S(N)∩S(P). S(N \cap P) = S(N) \cap S(P).
(4)

The proof reduces to that of § 5, no. 2, Proposition 4 replacing TT by SS throughout. The hypotheses of Proposition 5 always hold for arbitrary submodules N,PN, P of MM when AA is a field.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
