Algebra, chapter III, § 7. Exterior algebras

Let AA be a commutative ring and MM an AA-module. The exterior algebra of MM, denoted by ⋀(M)\bigwedge(M) or Alt(M)\mathrm{Alt}(M) or ⋀A(M)\bigwedge_A(M), is the algebra over AA the quotient of the tensor algebra T(M)T(M) by the two-sided ideal J′′\mathfrak{J}'' (also denoted by JM′′\mathfrak{J}_{M}'') generated by the elements x⊗xx \otimes x, where xx runs through MM.

Since the ideal J′′\mathfrak{J}'' is generated by homogeneous elements of degree 2, it is a graded ideal (II, § 11, no. 3, Proposition 2); we write Jn′′=J′′∩Tn(M)\mathfrak{J}_n'' = \mathfrak{J}'' \cap T^n(M); the algebra ⋀(M)\bigwedge(M) is therefore graded by the graduation (called canonical) consisting of the ⋀n(M)=Tn(M)/Jn′′\bigwedge^n(M) = T^n(M)/\mathfrak{J}_n''. Then J0′′=J1′′={0}\mathfrak{J}_0'' = \mathfrak{J}_1'' = \{0\} and hence ⋀0(M)\bigwedge^0(M) is identified with AA and ⋀1(M)\bigwedge^1(M) with T1(M)=MT^1(M) = M; in what follows we shall always make these identification and the canonical injection M→⋀(M)M \to \bigwedge(M) will be denoted by ϕ′′\phi'' or ϕM′′\phi_M''.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
