Algebra, chapter III, § 8. Determinants

Let MM be a finite-dimensional free AA-module. For every endomorphism uu of MM, the following conditions are equivalent: (f) uu is injective; (g) det uu is not a divisor of zero in AA.

With the same notation as in the proof of Theorem 1, for uu to be injective, it is necessary and sufficient that the xix_i be linearly independent. By § 7, no. 9, Proposition 12, it is necessary and sufficient for this that the relation λx1∧x2∧⋯∧xn=0\lambda x_1 \wedge x_2 \wedge \cdots \wedge x_n = 0 (with λ∈A\lambda \in A) imply λ=0\lambda = 0. But this is equivalent to λ(det⁡u)=0\lambda (\det u) = 0 since e1∧⋯∧ene_1 \wedge \cdots \wedge e_n is a basis of Λn(M)\Lambda^n(M); whence the proposition.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
