Algebra, chapter IV, § 1. Polynomials

— Let f∈A[X]f \in A[X] be a non-zero polynomial in an indeterminate and aa its leading coefficient. If aa is cancellable in A (in particular iff is monic) then we have for any non-zero element'g of A[X]A[X],

fg≠0anddeg⁡(fg)=deg⁡f+deg⁡g fg \neq 0 \quad \text{and} \quad \deg(fg) = \deg f + \deg g

Let g∈A[X]g \in A[X] be a non-zero polynomial, β\beta its leading coefficient, n=deg⁡fn = \deg f and p=deg⁡gp = \deg g. Then the coefficient of Xn+pX^{n+p} in fgfg is αβ\alpha \beta which does not vanish, whence the proposition.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
