Algebra, chapter V, § 2. Extensions

— If M and N are any two subsets of an extension of a field K, then K(M∪N)=K(M)(N)=K(N)(M)K(M \cup N) = K(M)(N) = K(N)(M).

For K(M∪N)K(M \cup N) contains K(M)K(M) and N and hence K(M)(N)K(M)(N); since K(M)(N)K(M)(N) is a field containing K∪M∪NK \cup M \cup N, it contains K(M∪N)K(M \cup N), whence the proposition.

We shall sometimes write K(M,N)K(M, N) instead of K(M∪N)K(M \cup N).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
