Algebra, V, p. 20, § 4. Algebraically closed extensions

Let Ω\Omega be an algebraically closed field and K a subfield of Ω\Omega. Then the relative algebraic closure Kˉ\bar{K} of K in Ω\Omega is an algebraically closed field.

Let f be a non-constant polynomial in Kˉ[X]⊂Ω[X]\bar{K}[X] \subset \Omega[X]. Since Ω\Omega is algebraically closed, the polynomial f has at least one root in Ω\Omega, and since this root is algebraic over Kˉ\bar{K}, it belongs to Kˉ\bar{K} (V, p. 19, Prop. 4). Therefore Kˉ\bar{K} satisfies (AC').

\* Example 2. — By Prop. 2 the set of all complex numbers that are algebraic over Q (often called briefly algebraic numbers) is an algebraically closed field. \*

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
