Algebra, chapter V, § 5. p-radical extensions

— Let K be a field, E an extension field of K which is p-radical over K and uu a homomorphism of K into a perfect field F. Then there exists a unique homomorphism vv of E into F extending uu.

Let EnE_n be the set of elements of E which are p-radical of height ≤n\leq n over K. By Prop. 2 the field E is the union of the ascending sequence (En)n≥0(E_n)_{n \geq 0} of subfields. Let vv be a homomorphism of E into F extending uu; for any x∈Enx \in E_n we have xpn∈Kx^{p^n} \in K, whence v(x)pn=v(xpn)=u(xpn)v(x)^{p^n} = v(x^{p^n}) = u(x^{p^n}); we thus have v(x)=u(xpn)p−nv(x) = u(x^{p^n})^{p^{-n}} for all n≥0n \geq 0 and all x∈Enx \in E_n, whence the uniqueness of the extension of uu to E.

Let nn be a positive integer; for any x∈Enx \in E_n we have xpn∈Kx^{p^n} \in K and since F is perfect, we can define an element vn(x)v_n(x) of F by vn(x)=u(xpn)p−nv_n(x) = u(x^{p^n})^{p^{-n}}. It is clear that vnv_n is a homomorphism of EnE_n into F, that v0=uv_0 = u and that vn+1v_{n+1} induces vnv_n on EnE_n. Hence there exists a homomorphism vv of E into F inducing vnv_n on EnE_n for all n≥0n \geq 0 and, in particular, coinciding with v0=uv_0 = u on E0=KE_0 = K.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
