Algebra, chapter V, § 10. Galois extensions

— The homomorphism λ\lambda of Gal(N/K)\mathrm{Gal}(N/K) into lim←⁡Gal(Ni/K)\varprojlim \mathrm{Gal}(N_i/K) is an isomorphism of topological groups.

Since Gal(N/K)\mathrm{Gal}(N/K) is compact, λ\lambda continuous and the group lim←⁡Gal(Ni/K)\varprojlim \mathrm{Gal}(N_i/K) separated, it suffices to show that hh is bijective (Gen. Top., I, p. 87, Cor. 2). Let u=(ui)i∈Iu = (u_i)_{i \in I} be an element of lim←⁡Gal(Ni/K)\varprojlim \mathrm{Gal}(N_i/K); for each i∈Ii \in I, uiu_i is a K-automorphism of NiN_i and uiu_i is the restriction of uju_j to NiN_i for i≤ji \leq j. Since N=⋃i∈INiN = \bigcup_{i \in I} N_i, there exists a unique element σ\sigma of Gal(N/K)\mathrm{Gal}(N/K) which coincides with uiu_i on NiN_i for all i∈Ii \in I. Thus σ\sigma is the unique element of Gal(N/K)\mathrm{Gal}(N/K) such that λ(u)=u\lambda(u) = u, hence λ\lambda is bijective.

This applies in particular when we take for the family (Ni)(N_i) the family of all finite Galois subextensions of NN; then each group Gal(Ni/K)\mathrm{Gal}(N_i/K) is discrete and finite. The topological group Gal(N/K)\mathrm{Gal}(N/K) is thus isomorphic to a directed inverse limit of finite groups, equipped with the discrete topology; this is sometimes called a profinite topological group.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
