Algebra, V, p. 68, § 10. Galois extensions

For i = 1, 2 let EiE_i be a subfield of N containing K and let Δi=g(Ei)\Delta_i = g(E_i). For any σ∈Γ\sigma \in \Gamma the relations σ(E1)=E2\sigma(E_1) = E_2 and σΔ1σ−1=Δ2\sigma \Delta_1 \sigma^{-1} = \Delta_2 are equivalent.

For we have τ∈g(σ(E1))\tau \in g(\sigma(E_1)) if and only if τσ(x)=σ(x)\tau \sigma(x) = \sigma(x), that is, σ−1τσ(x)=x\sigma^{-1} \tau \sigma(x) = x, for all x∈E1x \in E_1; this amounts to saying 'that σ−1τσ∈Δ1\sigma^{-1} \tau \sigma \in \Delta_1, whence g(σ(E1))=σΔ1σ−1g(\sigma(E_1)) = \sigma \Delta_1 \sigma^{-1}.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
