Algebra, chapter V, § 10. Galois extensions
— Let be a quasi-Galois extension of . We denote by , the field of invariants of the group of all -automorphisms of and by , the relative separable algebraic closure of in (, p. 44). Then:
a) is the relative -radical closure of in (, p. 25).
b) , is a Galois extension of and every -automorphism of extends in a unique fashion to an -automorphism of .
c) The fields and , are linearly disjoint over and we have ; in other words, the canonical homomorphism of , into is an isomorphism.
Let be an algebraic closure of containing as subextension (, p. 23, Th. 2). Every -automorphism of induces an automorphism of because is quasi-Galois. Therefore every element of is invariant under the group of -automorphisms of , hence -radical over (, p. 53, Cor. 3). Conversely every element of which is -radical over is clearly invariant under every -automorphism of and hence belongs to . This proves a).
Every -automorphism of maps into , hence into , so is a quasi-Galois extension of (, p. 54, Prop. 3). It follows that is a Galois extension of . Every element of , is separable algebraic and -radical over , hence belongs to (, p. Cor. 3); we thus have . Now is -radical over (, p. 44, Prop. 13) and separable algebraic over (, p. 56, Th. 1) hence both -radical and separable over . Hence we have (, p. 39, Cor. 3) and the assertions b), c) follow from Th. 5 (, p. 71).
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
