Algebra, chapter VII, § 1. Principal ideal domains

For any field KK, the set of monic irreducible polynomials in K[X]K[X] is infinite.

Indeed, given an arbitrary nonempty finite family (pi)(p_i) (1≤i≤n1 \leq i \leq n) of distinct monic irreducible polynomials, the polynomial (∏i=1npi)+1\left( \prod_{i=1}^n p_i \right) + 1 is not invertible, and any monic irreducible factor qq of this polynomial is necessarily distinct from all the pip_i, otherwise it would divide 1.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
