Topological Vector Spaces, chapter II, § 2. Convex sets

— A subset AA of an affine space EE is convex if, for every two points x,yx, y of AA, the closed segment with end points x,yx, y is contained in AA.

As (1−λ)a+λx=a+λ(x−a)(1 - \lambda) a + \lambda x = a + \lambda (x - a), this definition is equivalent to the following: the set AA is convex if, for every point a∈Aa \in A, the transform of AA by a homothety of centre aa and ratio λ\lambda where 0<λ<10 < \lambda < 1, is contained in AA (in other words, AA is stable for these homotheties).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
