Topological Vector Spaces, chapter II, § 2. Convex sets

— Let AA be a convex subset of a vector space EE; for any scalars α>0\alpha > 0 and β>0\beta > 0 we have αA+βA=(α+β)A\alpha A + \beta A = (\alpha + \beta) A. In other words, for any x∈A,y∈Ax \in A, y \in A, there exists z∈Az \in A such that (α+β)z=αx+βy(\alpha + \beta) z = \alpha x + \beta y; in fact this relation can be written z=αα+βx+βα+βyz = \frac{\alpha}{\alpha + \beta} x + \frac{\beta}{\alpha + \beta} y and we have αα+β>0,βα+β>0\frac{\alpha}{\alpha + \beta} > 0, \frac{\beta}{\alpha + \beta} > 0 and αα+β+βα+β=1\frac{\alpha}{\alpha + \beta} + \frac{\beta}{\alpha + \beta} = 1, from which the assertion follows, on using def. 1.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
