Topological Vector Spaces, II, p. 8, § 2. Convex sets

Let (xi)(x_i) be a family of points of a convex subset AA; every barycentre ∑iλixi\sum_i \lambda_i x_i of the xix_i formed using positive masses λi\lambda_i (such that ∑iλi=1\sum_i \lambda_i = 1 and λi=0\lambda_i = 0 except for finitely many of the indices, cf. A, II, § 9.3) belongs to AA.

Clearly we need only consider the case when the indices are 1,2,...,p1, 2, ..., p and λi>0\lambda_i > 0 for each ii; the proposition is trivial if p=1p = 1; we prove the result by induction on pp. Put μ=∑i=1p−1λi>0\mu = \sum_{i=1}^{p-1} \lambda_i > 0, and y=∑i=1p−1λiμxiy = \sum_{i=1}^{p-1} \frac{\lambda_i}{\mu} x_i; the induction hypothesis implies that y∈Ay \in A. Now as λp=1−μ\lambda_p = 1 - \mu and ∑i=1pλixi=μy+(1−μ)xp\sum_{i=1}^p \lambda_i x_i = \mu y + (1 - \mu) x_p, its follows from def. 1 that ∑i=1pλixi\sum_{i=1}^p \lambda_i x_i belongs to AA.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
