Topological Vector Spaces, II, p. 54, § 7. Extremal points and extremal generators

Let AA be a convex set in an affine space EE. Then we say that a point x∈Ax \in A is an extremal point of AA if there does not exist an open segment that is contained in AA and contains xx.

In other words, the relations x=λy+(1−λ)z, y∈A, z∈A, y≠zx = \lambda y + (1 - \lambda)z,\ y \in A,\ z \in A,\ y \neq z and 0≤λ≤10 \leq \lambda \leq 1 imply λ=0\lambda = 0 or λ=1\lambda = 1 (thus x=yx = y or x=zx = z). This implies that xx cannot be the barycentre of a set of nn points xix_i of AA carrying positive masses unless xx is one of the xix_i; for this is just the definition when n=2n = 2; for arbitrary nn argue by induction on nn, as xx is the barycentre of x1x_1 and of the barycentre y1y_1 of the xix_i with 2≤i≤n2 \leq i \leq n, therefore xx is identical with x1x_1 or y1y_1, and in the second case it is sufficient to apply the induction hypothesis.

To say that xx is an extremal point of AA also means that A−{x}A - \{x\} is convex.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
