Topological Vector Spaces, chapter II, § 8. Complex locally convex spaces

Let AA be a non-empty balanced open convex set of a complex topological vector space EE, and BB be a non-empty convex set that does not meet AA. Then there exists a continuous complex linear form ff on EE and a number α>0\alpha > 0 such that ∣f(x)∣<α|f(x)| < \alpha in AA and ∣f(y)∣≥α|f(y)| \geq \alpha in BB.

For, there exists a continuous real linear form gg on EE and a real number α\alpha such that g(x)<αg(x) < \alpha in AA and g(y)≥αg(y) \geq \alpha in BB (II, p. 37, prop. 1). As 0∈A0 \in A, we have α>0\alpha > 0. We show that the continuous complex linear form f(x)=g(x)−ig(ix)f(x) = g(x) - ig(ix) and the number α\alpha have the properties required. For, since ℜf=g\Re f = g, we have ∣f(y)∣≥α|f(y)| \geq \alpha in BB. On the other hand, for all x∈Ax \in A and all real ϑ\vartheta, the point eiϑxe^{i\vartheta}x belongs to AA, since AA is balanced, and we have f(x)=e−iϑf(eiϑx)f(x) = e^{-i\vartheta}f(e^{i\vartheta}x); then there exists a number ϑ\vartheta such that ∣f(x)∣=ℜ(eiϑf(x))=g(eiϑx)<α|f(x)| = \Re(e^{i\vartheta}f(x)) = g(e^{i\vartheta}x) < \alpha, and the proposition follows.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
