Topological Vector Spaces, chapter V, § 1. Prehilbertian spaces and hilbertian spaces

— 1) Suppose f is positive and separating, and let x, y be two vectors ≠0\neq 0. The proof of Cauchy-Schwarz inequality shows that, if the two members of (7) are equal, then there exists a scalar ξ\xi such that f(x+ξy,x+ξy)=0f(x + \xi y, x + \xi y) = 0, hence x+ξy=0x + \xi y = 0, in other words, xx and yy are linearly dependent; the converse is immediate. The proof of inequality (8) shows that the equality p(x+y)=p(x)+p(y)p(x + y) = p(x) + p(y) is possible only if xx and yy are linearly dependent; if y=λxy = \lambda x, the preceding equality can be written as ∣1+λ∣=1+∣λ∣|1 + \lambda| = 1 + |\lambda|, and implies that λ\lambda is real and positive.

2) Let ff be a positive hermitian form on EE, and let EE be assigned the semi-norm x↦f(x,x)1/2x \mapsto f(x, x)^{1/2}; if ff is the positive, separating hermitian form defined on E/NE/N associated with ff, then the normed space obtained by assigning the norm x↦f(x˙,x˙)1/2x \mapsto f(\dot{x}, \dot{x})^{1/2} to E/NE/N is the normed space associated with EE (II, p. 5).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
