Topological Vector Spaces, chapter V, § 4. Some classes of operators in hilbertian spaces

— Let EE be a hilbertian space, which is the hilbertian sum of a family (Ei)i∈I(E_i)_{i \in I} of hilbertian subspaces. Let uu be an element of L(E)\mathscr{L}(E) such that u(Ei)⊂Eiu(E_i) \subset E_i for all i∈Ii \in I; let uiu_i be the element of L(Ei)\mathscr{L}(E_i) which coincides with uu on EiE_i. Then Tr⁡(u)=∑i∈ITr⁡(ui)\operatorname{Tr}(u) = \sum_{i \in I} \operatorname{Tr}(u_i) when uu is positive, or belongs to L1(E)\mathscr{L}^1(E); this relation follows from formula (25) of V, p. 50 applied to an orthonormal basis of EE which is the union of orthonormal bases of each of the EiE_i.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
