Functions of a Real Variable, chapter IV, § 1. EXISTENCE THEOREMS

Given a positive real function t↦k(t)t \mapsto k(t) defined on II, one says that a map ff from I×HI \times H into EE is Lipschitz with respect to the function k(t)k(t) if, for every x∈Hx \in H, the function t↦f(t,x)t \mapsto f(t, x) is regulated on II, and if, for every t∈It \in I and every pair of points x1,x2x_1, x_2 of HH, one has (the "Lipschitz condition")

∥f(t,x1)−f(t,x2)∥≤k(t)∥x1−x2∥. \| f(t, x_1) - f(t, x_2) \| \leq k(t) \| x_1 - x_2 \|.

(8)

We shall say that ff is Lipschitz (without being more specific) on I×HI \times H if it is Lipschitz on this set for some constant k≥0k \geq 0. It is immediate that a Lipschitz function on I×HI \times H satisfies the hypotheses of lemma 1 of IV, p. 165 (the converse being false); when ff is Lipschitz (on I×HI \times H) one says that the differential equation

x′=f(t,x) x' = f(t, x)

(1)

is Lipschitz (on I×HI \times H).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
