Integration, chapter III, § 1. Measures on a locally compact space

— Let X be a locally compact space, E a locally convex space; then, the space K(X;E)\mathscr{K}(X;E) is dense in C(X;E)C(X;E) for the topology of compact convergence.

For every compact set K⊂XK \subset X, there exists a function h∈K(X;R)h \in \mathscr{K}(X;\mathbf{R}) equal to 1 on K, by Lemma 1; for every function f∈C(X;E)f \in C(X;E) the function hfhf, which belongs to K(X;E)\mathscr{K}(X;E), is equal to f on K, whence our assertion.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
