Integration, chapter IV, § 4. Integrable functions and sets

— Let (An)(A_n) be a sequence of pairwise disjoint integrable sets such that ∑n=1∞∣μ∣(An)<+∞\sum_{n=1}^\infty |\mu|(A_n) < +\infty; then

μ(⋃nAn)=∑n=1∞μ(An). \mu\left(\bigcup_n A_n\right) = \sum_{n=1}^\infty \mu(A_n).

For, if A=⋃nAnA = \bigcup_n A_n then φA=∑n=1∞φAn\varphi_A = \sum_{n=1}^\infty \varphi_{A_n}, and the proposition follows from (17) and Cor. 2 of Th. 2 of No. 3.

The relation (18) is also expressed by saying that the measure μ\mu is completely additive in the set of integrable subsets of XX.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
