Integration, chapter IV, § 7. Barycenters

— Suppose in addition that XX is metrizable. Then the following properties are equivalent:

a) aa is an A\mathscr{A}-extremal point of XX.

b) There exists u∈Au \in \mathscr{A} such that ∣u(x)∣<∣u(a)∣|u(x)| < |u(a)| for all x≠ax \neq a.

c) Let M\mathfrak{M} be the set of subsets MM of XX such that for every function f∈Af \in \mathscr{A}, ∣f∣|f| attains its supremum in XX at at least one point of MM. Then aa belongs to all of the sets M∈MM \in \mathfrak{M}.

d) Let N\mathfrak{N} be the set of subsets NN of XX such that, for every function f∈Af \in \mathscr{A}, R(f)\mathscr{R}(f) attains its supremum in XX at at least one point of NN. Then aa belongs to all of the sets N∈NN \in \mathfrak{N}.

In other words,

ChA(X)=⋂M∈MM=⋂N∈NN. \mathrm{Ch}_{\mathscr{A}}(X) = \bigcap_{M \in \mathfrak{M}} M = \bigcap_{N \in \mathfrak{N}} N.

Since, in a metrizable space, every point admits a countable fundamental system of neighborhoods, the equivalence of a) and b) follows from Th. 2. Let us show that b) implies c): indeed, aa is the unique point where ∣u∣|u| attains its supremum; on the other hand, c) implies a) because, for every f∈Af \in \mathscr{A}, ChA(X)\mathrm{Ch}_{\mathscr{A}}(X) intersects the set of points where ∣f∣|f| attains its supremum (No. 4, Prop. 9). The same reasoning, using Prop. 5 of No. 3, shows that d) implies a). Finally, to see that b) implies d), we can restrict ourselves to the case that XX does not reduce to the single point aa, therefore u(a)≠0u(a) \neq 0; the function v=u/u(a)v = u/u(a) then belongs to A\mathscr{A}, and we have v(a)=1v(a) = 1 and ∣v(x)∣<1|v(x)| < 1 for x≠ax \neq a, whence R(v(a))=1\mathscr{R}(v(a)) = 1 and R(v(x))<1\mathscr{R}(v(x)) < 1 for x≠ax \neq a. Since the function R(v)\mathscr{R}(v) attains its supremum only at the point aa, we have indeed a∈Na \in N for every N∈NN \in \mathfrak{N}.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
