Integration, V, p. 44, § 5. Measures defined by numerical densities
Let be a subset of ; for to be locally -integrable, it is necessary and sufficient that be -measurable. Assuming the condition to be fulfilled, set ; for every numerical function defined on , we then have
a quantity that is also denoted by (cf. Ch. IV, §5, No. 6). For a mapping of into a topological space to be -measurable, it is necessary and sufficient that the restriction of to be -measurable. For a mapping of into a Banach space or into to be essentially -integrable, it is necessary and sufficient that be essentially -integrable, in which case
an expression that is also denoted . Note that if two mappings of into (resp. ) coincide on , then for one of them to be -measurable (resp. essentially -integrable), it is necessary and sufficient that the other be so. If now is a mapping into of an arbitrary subset of , one says that is -measurable on if an arbitrary extension to of the restriction of to is -measurable, which amounts to saying that the restriction of to is -measurable. A mapping of into a Banach space , or into , is said to be essentially -integrable on if some extension to of the restriction of to is essentially -integrable; one then sets
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
