Integration, chapter VIII, § 4. Convolution of measures and functions

— Let f∈L2(G,β)f \in L^2(G, \beta), g∈L2(G,β)g \in L^2(G, \beta). Then ff and g˙\dot{g} are convolvable. One of the convolutions f∗g˙f * \dot{g} belongs to K(G)‾\overline{\mathscr{K}(G)} and its value at ee is ∫Gf(s)g(s)dβ(s)\int_G f(s)g(s) d\beta(s).

It suffices to take p=q=2p = q = 2 in Prop. 15 and to apply (16).

We no longer assume β\beta to be left-invariant. Let ρ\rho be a lower semi-continuous finite function >0> 0 on GG, such that ρ(st)≤ρ(s)ρ(t)\rho(st) \leq \rho(s)\rho(t) for all s,ts, t in GG. We denote by Lρ(G,β)L^\rho(G, \beta) the set of equivalence classes of the complex functions on GG that are integrable for ρ⋅β\rho \cdot \beta. By the mapping f↦f⋅βf \mapsto f \cdot \beta, Lρ(G,β)L^\rho(G, \beta) may be identified with the set of elements of Mρ(G)\mathscr{M}^\rho(G) that have base β\beta (a set that is independent of the choice of β\beta). If one sets

∥f∥ρ=∫G∣f(s)∣ρ(s)dβ(s) \|f\|_\rho = \int_G |f(s)| \rho(s) d\beta(s)

for f∈Lρ(G,β)f \in L^\rho(G, \beta), this identification is compatible with the norms, thus Lρ(G,β)L^\rho(G, \beta) appears as a complete normed subalgebra of Mρ(G)\mathscr{M}^\rho(G). It is even a two-sided ideal of Mρ(G)\mathscr{M}^\rho(G) by Prop. 10 of §3, No. 2. (For ρ=1\rho = 1, one recovers one of the assertions of No. 4.) In particular, L1(G,β)L^1(G, \beta) may be identified with a closed two-sided ideal of M1(G)\mathscr{M}^1(G).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
