Integration, chapter VIII, § 4. Convolution of measures and functions

— Let WW be a closed linear subspace of L1(G,β)L^1(G, \beta). For WW to be a left (resp. right) ideal of L1(G,β)L^1(G, \beta), it is necessary and sufficient that WW be invariant under the left (resp. right) translations of GG.

Suppose that WW is a left ideal. Let s∈Gs \in G and g∈Wg \in W. We have εs∗g=lim⁡VfV∗(εs∗g)=lim⁡V(fV∗εs)∗g\varepsilon_s * g = \lim_V f_V * (\varepsilon_s * g) = \lim_V (f_V * \varepsilon_s) * g, and (fV∗εs)∗g∈W(f_V * \varepsilon_s) * g \in W, therefore εs∗g∈W\varepsilon_s * g \in W, thus γ(s)g∈W\gamma(s)g \in W. Conversely, if WW is invariant under the left translations, then μ∗βg∈W\mu *^\beta g \in W for μ∈M1(G)\mu \in \mathscr{M}^1(G) and g∈Wg \in W, therefore WW is a fortiori a left ideal of L1(G,β)L^1(G, \beta). One argues similarly for right ideals.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
