Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter I, § 3. Representations

Let gg be a Lie KK-algebra and MM a gg-module. Suppose that MM, considered as a KK-module, admits a finite basis. The bilinear form associated with the gg-module MM (or with the corresponding representation) is the symmetric bilinear form (x,y)↦Tr⁡(xMyM)(x, y) \mapsto \operatorname{Tr}(x_M y_M) on gg. If the representation in question is the adjoint representation, the associated bilinear form is called the Killing form of gg.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
