Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter I, § 4. Nilpotent Lie algebras

Let gg be a Lie algebra, MM a gg-module of finite dimension over KK and AA the associative algebra generated by 1 and the set of xMx_M (x∈gx \in g).

(a) The ideals aa of gg such that xMx_M is nilpotent for all x∈ax \in a are all contained in one of them, nn.

(b) The ideal nn is the set of x∈gx \in g such that xMx_M belongs to the Jacobson radical of AA.

(c) Let (Mi)0≤i≤n(M_i)_{0 \leq i \leq n} be a Jordan-Hölder series of the gg-module MM; then nn is also the set of x∈gx \in g such that (x)Mi/Mi+1=0(x)_{M_i/M_{i+1}} = 0 for all ii.

(d) nn is orthogonal to gg with respect to the bilinear form associated with φ\varphi.

The set of x∈gx \in g such that xMx_M belongs to the Jacobson radical of AA is obviously an ideal of gg. The proposition then follows immediately from Lemma 3.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
